  • Our Montessori Environment
    Elementary_Classroom-359x2612008-04-28-12094027492008-04-28-1209403098.jpg

The Rims Montessori Academy utilizes a traditional Montessori philosophy to give your child an academic and social experience to nurture their love of learning. Our teachers are Montessori certified and state licensed and specialize in the education of children ages 3-9. The small size of our campus allows teachers and students to develop a special rapport which is enriched over a three year cycle. We give our students the knowledge and confidence to excel academically and socially.

We currently have limited spaces available for our Preschool, Kindergarten, and 1st – 3rd grades for summer and fall 2008. Preschool & Kindergarten classes are available as half or full days. Classes are filling quickly!

  • Early Childhood Program (Ages 3 - 6)
Our classrooms are designed to allow children the freedom to explore, create, and learn at their own pace. Children will participate in small group lessons and work independently with Montessori materials. Children work along with a fully certified Montessori teacher. The four core areas of study for our Early Childhood Program are: practical life, sensorial, mathematics, and language.

The Practical Life lessons give students confidence to accomplish everyday tasks. Students learn first to care for themselves, others, and their environment. Practical life skills include setting the table, washing their hands, putting on their own coats and shoes, cleaning, caring for pets, etc.

The Sensorial lessons are designed to develop the use of all five senses. Each lesson teaches one quality such as volume, size, width, length, touch, temperature, weight, color, shape, or sound. Students learn how to order and classify objects creating the foundation for future studies in science, math, and geography.

The Mathematics Program uses hands-on materials to teach linear counting and place value through the manipulation of objects. Six year olds will generally know the math operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division upon exiting the program.

The Language Arts Program is designed to enhance the students skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It begins with readiness activities such songs, poems, stories, and listening games. When a child shows he/she is ready for more formal instruction, a phonetic approach to reading is introduced. Students will use Montessori materials as well as simple phonics workbooks and stories.

Enrichment Activities can include studies in Botany, Zoology, Cultures of the World, Geography puzzles, Music and Movement, Drama, Art, Physical Education and Spanish for students of all ages.

  • Summer Program (Ages 3 - 9)
The Summer Program offers students more enrichment activities in all subjects and another chance to further explore areas of interest. In addition to Montessori lessons, we will also enjoy outdoor picnics, extended recesses, gardening, botany and zoology studies, lots of art projects, music, and physical education games. Join us for summer fun and learning!

  • Lower Elementary Program (Ages 6 - 9)
The Lower Elementary Program covers all traditional subjects with the opportunity for in-depth studies of special interest areas.

Students receive individual and small group instruction, which allows each child to progress at their own pace. Learning takes place through the manipulation of the hands-on materials which are designed specifically for their interests and needs. The classroom atmosphere is inquiring and cooperative as students are not confined to desks and are allowed to interact with each other. Teachers support the students socially, emotionally and academically. Children exercise decision making, time management, social expression and self-discipline daily. Subjects are integrated with each other and all subject material is available at all times. Students are given an uninterrupted time to work which builds concentration.

  • What is Montessori?
    Elementary_Classroom-359x2612008-04-28-120940274922222008-04-28-1209403358.jpg

Dr. Maria Montessori, MD was ahead of her time when she became the first female doctor in Italy in 1896. Dr. Montessori’s work became centered on the study of children and how they learn. During her many years of direct observation of children she considered no preconceived notion or theory about their abilities and did not attempt to manipulate their behavior with rewards or punishments. She prepared the children’s environment every day and observed the children. Over time she developed materials that satisfied children’s interest, needs and abilities. She discovered that given the right environment and materials children could far surpass an adult’s expectations. Today her method of teaching and materials are being used in Montessori schools around the world.
