Billings Clinic Awarded Grant from Native People for Cancer Control

Grant to benefit Northern Cheyenne and Crow Reservation in Women's Run Getting Started Clinics

Billings Clinic has been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Native People for Cancer Control, a program based out of the University of Washington that works with Tribal community members, leaders, researchers, clinicians, educators, and outreach workers to address cancer education, training, research and planning.

The Grant, entitled "Fit and Fabulous - Getting Educated and Healthy," will be divided evenly between Northern Cheyenne and Crow Reservations and provide Montana Women's Run Getting Started Clinics in those areas. The Getting Started Clinics help participants get in shape with instructor led exercise and stretching techniques in plenty of time for the Montana Women's Run. The Clinics are free, and will collaborate with Tribal Health employees to educate participants on other health topics ranging from tobacco cessation to diabetes, as well as provide door prizes, healthy snacks, and incentives for participation in the Montana Women's Run.

The Getting Started Clinics will take place once a week for seven weeks, beginning March 20 and ending May 8. The Lame Deer Reservation Clinic will take place at the Lame Deer Walking Path from 5:30-6:30 pm; the Crow Reservation Clinic will be held at the Crow Fair Arbor from 5:15-6:15 pm.

For more information regarding the Lame Deer Getting Started Clinic, call (406-477-6722) or search for the Facebook Event "Northern Cheyenne Fit and Fabulous." For the Crow Getting Started Clinic, call 638-1895 or search for the Facebook Event "Crow-Fit and Fabulous."
